What is Cross 09?
The U.S. Campus Ministry has a long history of crossing oceans, borders and cultures in response to the Great Commission and helping to make disciples of all nations. If you think about it, most US campuses offer the chance to cross cultures every day - no passport required! As the fastest growing culture groups on campuses today, ethnic minority students and faculty represent incredible ministry opportunity.
The U.S. Campus Ministry joined together for three culture crossing days in November (9th-11th). Our mission is to extend the same heart that we've shown for crossing cultures overseas to engaging those right at our doorstep by trusting the Lord to raise up leaders for ethnic movements all over the U.S.
With that kind of leadership and encouragement, Mike and I were definitely "in" on participating in Cross'09. With our teams from the National Campus Office, we drove down to Miami, FL to help the existing Metro Team start ministries on several campuses.
Mike spent a day at Miami-Dade Kendall, FIU-South and UMiami, while I spent all three days at UMiami, reaching out to international students.
One of the Miami Metro Team Interns said that our three days together at UMiami were the most fun, exciting, and visionary days as we met, gathered and invited over 30 international students to a dinner in their honor.
With 10,000 students on campus, and 25% of those students from countries around the world, it's exciting to think about how UMiami could become a missionary sending school! By giving international students an opportunity to learn about Jesus, then building them up in their new Christian faith, you can then send these students back to their home country with a vision for sharing Christ with their family and friends!
