Audacious prayers. Specific prayers. Praying prayers that seem almost risky, daring to believe God to do what He says He will do. Taking God at His Word. That sounds both scary and exciting at the same time. It sounds like living on the edge, living on hope, living with expectancy. It sounds like living life with eyes open, watching for how God might surprise me.
When my friend asked that question, I realized that I'd settled into comfort. Whether from busyness, disappointment, boredom, lethargy or not wanting to be a burden, I'd stopped ASKING God for much of anything.
But that little question has me fired up and I now have a different answer. You bet I'm praying specific prayers. You bet I'm expecting God to remain consistent with His character. You bet I'm watching for God to surprise me.
Yes, I'm praying audacious prayers. Are you?

Sounds exciting. No, I was not praying "audacious" prayers. I need to do so.
My favorite passages of Scripture are of people whose actions say,
"Because I believe You are exactly who You say You are, I will...
...get up and follow you."
...touch the edge of Your garment."
...cast my net into the water one more time."
...step out of the boat and walk on water."
...ask You to heal my servant from afar."
...use whatever I have to anoint You, even my tears and my hair."
...marry my fiance even though she's pregnant with a baby that isn't mine."
...humiliate myself in front of a crowd for the sake of being healed."
...get my buddies to hoist our disabled friend onto somebody's roof so we can tear a hole in it and lower him down for the mere possibility of having him healed."
...tell how much You have done for me."
...ask You to help me with my unbelief."
Lately I've been impressed by how He has been answering my prayers, but not at all surprised.
WOW... well said, Erin!
